Hickory High School to install metal detectors at Homecoming game

HICKORY, N.C. — Hickory High School is taking an extra step to protect students from violence. The school sent parents a letter saying anyone who goes to the school’s Homecoming game will have to walk through metal detectors.

Patrice Sawyer is a mom and said she supports the decision to have metal detectors.

“I’m OK with it,” Sawyer said. “I think it is necessary, to be honest, with everything going on. We need it.”

The superintendent said the decision was made because of recent gun violence at schools nationwide.
