Police investigate homicide after man found shot in Hickory road

HICKORY, N.C. — A man was found lying in the road with a gunshot wound early Saturday morning, Hickory police said.
 
Police officers found Octavis Sentex Geter, 23, in the 800 block of 2nd St SE just after 2 a.m. Geter had been shot but was still alive, officials said.
 
A large group of people were clustered near Geter lying in the road, police said.
 
Geter was taken to the hospital, where he later died, according to police.
 
"HPD needs the help of our community to bring the individual responsible to justice for this tragedy. Our investigators have determined this incident is not related to the homicide that took place on June 1, 2015," Chief of Police Tom Adkins, said.   
 
Officers are still investigating the case, Adkins said. Anyone who has more information should contact the Hickory Police Department at 328-5551.
