CHARLOTTE — A homicide was reported at the Chancellor Park Apartments on East W.T. Harris Boulevard on Tuesday morning.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene around 7:45 a.m. after a passerby located an unresponsive male with serious injuries.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim with what they described as unspecified trauma.

Teodoro Abarca, a resident of the Chancellor Park Apartments, expressed shock at the incident.

“And then I saw that white sheet, and I was like, that’s a dead body,” he recounted.

Abarca emphasized that the area has always seemed safe, stating, “I never heard of something like this happening in this area, so I’m just a little traumatized.”

The ongoing investigation has left neighbors like Abarca with unanswered questions about their safety.

Abarca noted, “Whenever there’s something like this, it’s never good, so hopefully it’s not a violent attack or anything like that, but kind of cause for concern.”

Major Ryan Kendall told Channel 9 that it remains unclear whether the injuries were inflicted inside or outside of an apartment.

He did, however, provide insight into the investigation.

“Apparently, a passerby located an unresponsive male, just off the parking lot here.”

Kendall stated that they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s injuries and have not yet determined the location where the incident occurred.

He added, “Right now there’s no indication that there’s an ongoing active threat to the community, but like I said, it’s always wise to pay attention to your surroundings no matter where you are.”
