MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County Detention Center Central is operating with just one of its four hot water heaters as repairs continue, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said it was notified around 7:05 a.m. Friday that three hot water heaters were offline and undergoing re-piping and pump replacement.
The remaining operational heater is being used to support essential needs. Staff are monitoring hot water availability and working with contractors to address affected areas.
Families should be aware that temporary interruptions or reduced hot water service may occur while the work continues.
The sheriff’s office said there is currently no confirmed timeline for when repairs will be completed. An update will be provided once contractors establish a repair schedule or the work is finished.
“We understand the importance of these systems in providing services at the detention center and appreciate families’ patience while the work is underway,” Sheriff Garry McFadden said.
