Part of I-485 outer in south Charlotte reopens after crash involving FedEx truck

CHARLOTTE — The I-485 Outer Loop near Westinghouse Boulevard in south Charlotte was shut down Monday morning due to a FedEx truck hanging off an overpass.

It happened just before 3:30 a.m, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The road near Exit 65 was closed, causing backups in the area. Lanes were open

According to the Charlotte Fire Department, a hazmat team was on the scene clearing fuel from an overturned vehicle over Westinghouse Boulevard. A Channel 9 crew could see a FedEx truck involved in the crash. Westinghouse is also closed in both directions under I-485.

Crews worked to clear the area all morning, towing the trailers out one by one.

Drivers are asked to use caution in the area. Traffic was diverted off I-485 Outer at South Tryon Street.

According to paramedics, no one was hurt.
