Pedestrian killed after being hit by car on I-85 North, officials say

CHARLOTTE — A pedestrian died after being struck by a car on Interstate 85 North at Sugar Creek Road on Friday night, according to officials.

The accident happened around 9 p.m. and all northbound lanes around mile marker 41 on I-85 were shut down for nearly three hours.

The accident caused heavy delays that backed up for three miles to Interstate 77.

All lanes reopened at around midnight on Interstate 85.

Reporter Joe Bruno was able to confirm the accident was fatal, but there is no word on the identity of the victim.

We are asking authorities what led to the crash and if the driver will face any charges.
