‘I was just shaking’: Charlotte woman wins $1 million in lottery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte receiving clerk is the latest winner to score a cool mil in the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Connie Lockhart was sitting in her car when she scratched the winning Power 10s ticket she bought at the Den’s Mart on The Plaza.

“I picked that one back up and I scratched it some more to make sure I’m reading $1 MIL and then I was just shaking,” she said.

Lockhart claimed her prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

She had the choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum and took home $424,503 after required state and federal tax withholdings.

She said she was going to pay off her bills, help her daughter finish paying off a loan, build a deck on her house and eventually go on vacation.

This is the second time in two weeks that a ticket in North Carolina won a $1 million prize in the game.
