IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — An Italian manufacturer of battery components is investing $3.3 million to expand its operations in Iredell County.
Accuma Corp. plans to establish lead bushing manufacturing at its Statesville facility on Fanjoy Road. Lead bushings serve as terminals for batteries used in products including cars, forklifts, and telecommunications equipment.
The family-owned company has operated in Iredell County for 41 years. Its Statesville facility currently manufactures plastic injection-molded products for the battery industry, while lead bushings are imported from Italy, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
Accuma is now installing equipment to begin making the components in Statesville. Initial production is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027, with the project expected to be completed by December 2027.
The expansion is supported by up to $33,466 in incentives from Iredell County, roughly half of the property taxes the new machinery and equipment are expected to generate.
The company also considered expanding at its Nebraska facility before choosing Statesville. Accuma could eventually build another facility on land it already owns in Iredell County if demand continues to grow.
