Lancaster County to open its first homeless shelter before the spring

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — There is no resource for neighbors who live on the streets in Lancaster County to get warmth on cold and rainy nights.

Channel 9′s South Carolina reporter Tina Terry has covered the need for a shelter since last year. Now, that help is on the way.

“Since the pandemic there’s been so many people without food, because they didn’t have more money to go to the grocery store,” said community activist Virginia Harris.

>> In the video at the top of the page, Terry shows us the plans to change that.

Project Connect events will be held from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Jan. 30: First Washington Baptist Church, 1300 E. Meeting Street
  • Jan. 31: Faith Presbyterian, Indian Land, 7520 Charlotte Hwy
  • Feb. 1: 2nd Baptist Church, Kershaw, 7737 Kershaw Camden Hwy
  • Feb. 2: Lancaster Bowling Center, 1352 Reece Road
