Fire at north Charlotte home was intentionally set, investigators say

CHARLOTTE — A large house fire in Charlotte’s Derita neighborhood was intentionally set, investigators said.

The flames broke out around 12:30 a.m. Thursday on Hewitt Drive, just off of West Sugar Creek Road.

MEDIC said it did not take anyone to the hospital in the incident.

A Channel 9 crew at the scene could see dozens of Charlotte Fire crews working to put the fire out. The department said about 30 firefighters battled the blaze for 20 minutes.

They tweeted around 2 p.m. Thursday that the fire was intentionally set.

Channel 9 has reached out to police to find out if they have a suspect in the case.
