RALEIGH — North Carolina lawmakers want to allow criminal suspects under involuntary commitment orders to get mental health treatment outside of psychiatric facilities.
Hospital leaders say they don’t want suspects evaluated in emergency departments, but sheriffs say hospitals are more appropriate.
The House has already passed the bill it now heads to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
