NORTH CAROLINA — North Carolina lawmakers want to shorten the required separation period before people can get divorced.
Senate Bill 626 would cut the year-long timeframe in half.
The waiting period would be waived in uncontested divorces without children, and wait for cases with evidence of domestic violence.
Another part of the bill would abolish the state’s alienation of affection law. That allows a spouse to sue a third party accused of interfering in a marriage.
