Purple Heart recipient makes history after scaling earth’s ‘seven summits’

TEGA CAY, S.C. — It’s a remarkable accomplishment made by a local veteran who now holds a new record after climbing all “seven summits” in the world.

Channel 9 first told you about Benjamin Breckheimer, a veteran and Purple Heart recipient, in May before he headed off to Alaska to climb Denali.

He has now made history, and the town of Tega Cay is proudly displaying his accomplishments.

“I got to reach the summit on June 13 and become the first and only combat-wounded veteran to achieve the seven summits,” he said.

>> In the video at the top of the page, anchor Genevieve Curtis caught up with Breckheimer to share how his journey has inspired so many.
