CHARLOTTE — Darnell Simms, who is accused of shooting at Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers in a northeast Charlotte neighborhood, will stay in jail without bond.
Simms faced a judge on Monday.
The shootout happened on Sept. 1 on Autumn Frost Trail.
It started when Simms’ wife called 911, saying she was worried he was on his way to her home with a gun, despite a protection order, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. Simms fired a shot at officers, who shot back, hitting him.
