Man arrested in Iredell County with drugs worth more than $250,000, sheriff says

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Sheriff’s deputies in Iredell County arrested a man accused of trafficking pills and marijuana worth hundreds of thousands of dollars earlier this week, the sheriff announced Friday.

According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, deputies tried to stop a 2011 GMC Yukon driving on Interstate 77 near mile marker 62 last Thursday. The driver refused to stop and drove off northbound before exiting onto East Memorial Highway in Union Grove, Campbell said.

After a short pursuit, deputies said the driver crashed his SUV into the woods in the 400 block of Jericho Road outside of Harmony.

Deputies arrested the driver, 31-year-old Oseas Ivan Munoz of Charlotte.

Inside the vehicle, law enforcement found nearly five pounds -- 2,142.88 grams -- of MDMA or ecstasy pills, marijuana, a gun and $3,215, the sheriff said.

Authorities said there were approximately 8,000 pills shaped like candy in various sizes and colors, with a street value over $267,800.

Munoz is a convicted felon, which prohibits him from having a gun. He also had warrants out of South Carolina for felony charges of selling a controlled substance and prior convictions for felony attempted murder, felony possession of a weapon during a violent crime and misdemeanor assault with intent to kill, deputies said.

After the arrest in Iredell County, Munoz was charged with a range of felonies including trafficking in MDMA by possession, trafficking MDMA by transportation, possession with intent to sell of MDMA and marijuana, fleeing to elude, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felony and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bond was set at $850,000.
