Man charged after family member shot, killed in Iredell County

HARMONY, N.C. — Deputies in Iredell County have arrested and charged a man with murdering a family member Friday night.

They were called out to a home around 8:15 p.m. on Rock Springs Road in Harmony and found 43-year-ol James Potts shot several times outside the house.

James Potts died at the scene.

Witnesses told deputies 41-year-old Noah Potts shot James Potts and he took off on an ATV. Deputies found Noah Potts at his home near the scene on Powell Bridge Road, and they said they found a gun in an ATV.

Officials said after detectives executed search warrants, collected evidence from both crime scenes, spoke with eyewitnesses to the shooting and interviewed Noah Potts, he was charged with felony first-degree murder.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting.
