Man convicted in 2014 murder of teacher Bianca Tanner dies in NC prison

PAMLICO COUNTY, N.C. — The man who admitted to killing teacher Bianca Tanner in 2014 died by suicide in prison, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Angelo Smith was found unresponsive and died Friday at Pamlico Correctional Institution in North Carolina.

Smith, who was Tanner’s boyfriend, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, kidnapping, concealment of a death and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was serving nearly 26 years in prison.

A second man, Lawrence Adrian Briscoe, was arrested was charged with concealment of death.
