Man stabs mother to death, leaves her in yard, Rowan County sheriff says

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A man is accused of stabbing and killing his mother with a knife Monday morning in Kannapolis, the Rowan County Sheriff’s said.

Hayden Jones, 24, killed 55-year-old Julie Corriher and left her lying in a yard near a camper on Boston Oaks Lane at about 9:15 a.m.

Neighbor Michael Henriksen said he saw the commotion unfold in front of his house.

“I could actually see them through the woods onto the other side of the road.” said Henriksen. “I immediately went outside and locked my shed, locked my doors, locked my cars. Gave him no place to hide near my family.”

Authorities searched for Jones and found him down the street from the crime scene.

Sammy King is another neighbor who said the news traveled fast through the neighborhood.

“It’s kind of scary. It makes you keep your eye out and keep your gun close by,” said King.

Jones was charged with murder and is being held in jail without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
