Marion’s fall Bigfoot Festival postponed to spring 2022

MARION, N.C. — It’ll be several more months before fans can gather to celebrate the legend of Bigfoot.

Organizers of the annual WNC Bigfoot Festival, which is held each September in Marion, announced on Sept. 1 that the event is being postponed until next spring.

The new dates for the festival were originally announced as Memorial Day weekend 2022, but organizers later changed the dates to May 13 and 14 to avoid conflict with the holiday weekend.

“Due to a conflict with Memorial Day the official dates for the 2022 WNC Bigfoot Festival will be May 13 & 14, 2022 in Marion, N.C.,” organizers said in a Facebook post.

The festival, which was started in 2018 after the town proclaimed the elusive creature its “official animal” following a reported sighting that year, typically attracts thousands of people to Marion.

According to the social media post, fans can still check out Bigfoot-themed activities taking place Sept. 13-18 on the festival website at marionbigfootfestival.com.
