MATTHEWS, N.C. — One of the Charlotte area’s largest retail developments traded this week for the second time in two years.

Waterstone Properties Group acquired Windsor Square, a 653,955-square-foot shopping center in Matthews, on Sept. 28 for $87 million, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records. The Massachusetts-based firm bought the property from Virginia-based Hackney Real Estate Partners. Hackney bought Windsor Square in November 2024 for $70.1 million.

Windsor Square, located at 1814 Windsor Square Drive, opened in the late 1980s and has remained highly stabilized in recent years. It is currently about 99% leased and anchored by Sam’s Club, Kohl’s, At Home, Ross Dress for Less, PetSmart, DSW and 2nd & Charles as well as other national retailers, said Andy Gendron, Waterstone’s director of marketing.
