Car collides with Meck County deputy’s SUV in Stanly County, police say

LOCUST, N.C. — Police are investigating after two vehicles crashed, including a Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office patrol SUV, Tuesday night in Stanly County.

Authorities responded to the scene at around 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of North Central Avenue and Meadowcreek Church Road.

Officers determined a car traveling east on Meadowcreek Church Road failed to stop at the intersection with flashing lights and yield to the patrol SUV.

There were three people in the car and one deputy in the patrol SUV. People in both vehicles were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the car was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign, police said.

A Channel 9 crew at the scene saw the patrol SUV banged up in a ditch with its airbags deployed. The SUV was upright at the time.
