‘It was very scary’: 19-year-old arrested in connection to Ballantyne shooting, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested a 19-year-old in connection to a March shooting in Ballantyne.

CMPD said they were responding on March 27 to a robbery call on Ardrey Kell Road near Tom Short Road. The shooting happened near the back of the shopping center located there, and sources told Channel 9 that at least three shots were fired.

A good Samaritan and business owner performed CPR on the person who was shot, but did not want to talk about it on camera.

The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Their identity has not been released.

On Monday, police said Daniel Carter, 19, was arrested and charged in the case.

The shooting happened a few minutes before a girls softball team arrived to eat dinner.

“It was very scary, I’ve never seen a lot like this before,” said player Izabella Dellicolli. “I was just hoping everybody is OK.”

“I’m very surprised actually,” said her mother, Angela Dellicolli. “This is a nice area so you don’t really expect that to happen here.”

Police said the victim and the suspects agreed to meet at the shopping center, but that the shopping center itself was not connected to the crime.

This is an ongoing investigation.
