CHARLOTTE — Miss North Carolina USA has been stripped of her title just weeks away from the 75th annual Miss USA pageant, the organization announced.
Brittany Boltinhouse, who is from Duplin County, was dethroned due to past social media posts that resurfaced and sparked public criticism.
The president and CEO of the Miss USA Organization wrote in a statement that “racism, homophobia and transphobia are not tolerated.” Her social media posts appeared to include all three issues.
The first runner-up, Myla Hadley, who represented Charlotte, will assume the title and compete in the Miss USA pageant on Aug. 27.
