Mother still has questions after son was killed working at north Charlotte restaurant

CHARLOTTE — Jamielle Clements would have turned 22 this upcoming weekend, but instead of celebrating, his mother is left with more questions about her son’s tragic death last October.

Clements died after being shot at the Fox and Hound restaurant in the Northlake area of Charlotte. Five months later, Deanna Cosby still questions why her son was caught in the crossfire.

“How did this happen at the restaurant,” asked Cosby, Jamielle’s mother. “Where was the security? Where was management?”

Surveillance video from a nearby business capture the moment that someone fired shots outside of the Fox and Hound. Cosby says her son had been working at the restaurant, and a manager said the person who shot Jamielle was a customer.

“From what I know, the person was a patron in the restaurant and he had been drinking,” Cosby told Channel 9′s Almiya White on Monday. “He got belligerent and I was told that just because he was so belligerent that Jamielle was asked to walk him out. I don’t know if anybody else walked out with him, but then the person shot him.”

Cosby says Jamielle had worked at Fox and Hound for about a year, and he was saving his money with plans to buy a car and move into his own place.

“He was my youngest son of three boys,” Cosby said. “Jamielle, he was just a bright spot. He was always helpful, a very deep thinker, very smart, introspective kid. He was just dynamic.”

Now Cosby is having to prepare to mark the first of his birthdays with him gone.

“It’s almost like some times that come in and out, I forget that he’s not here because it seems so surreal,” Cosby said. “Where the white doves fly, Jamielle is free today. The holy spirits guide his way.”

While Cosby tries to piece together what happened that night, those words give her a subtle reminder.

“That he’s OK,” she said.

Keenan Doliveira and Justice Davis have both been charged in connection with Clements’ death. Doliveira is in New York and awaiting extradition.

The Fox and Hound restaurant where Jamielle was shot has since closed permanently.
