Motorcyclist killed after crashing into bridge on I-40 in Conover, troopers say

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Troopers in Catawba County are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist.

The wreck happened at about 7 p.m. Thursday along Interstate 40 near Exit 130 for Conover.

State troopers said the motorcyclist slammed into a concrete support pile for a railroad bridge.

There was a guardrail near the bridge, but the rider missed it before striking the bridge, troopers said.
