‘A much-deserved day off’: Lowe’s closing all stores Easter Sunday

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Mooresville-based home improvement store Lowe’s announced all of its locations and distribution centers will be closed Easter Sunday.

A spokesperson told Channel 9 the company made this decision in order to “provide our teams with a much-deserved day off to spend Easter Sunday with their families and loved ones and recharge.”

Officials said they are taking steps to make sure employees who are paid hourly do not lose scheduled hours or pay because of the closure.

“Our ability to support communities with essential goods and services during this pandemic is thanks to our outstanding, dedicated associates,” Marvin Ellison, Lowe’s president and CEO, said. "I want to personally thank our 300,000 associates who have helped families stay safely at home. Their actions are nothing short of heroic.”

This builds on additional COVID-19 updates from Lowe’s such as temporarily increasing wages through April and special payments for hourly employees. The company will provide masks and gloves to employees who ask for them.

Lowe’s said it also updated its operational procedures to meet the social distancing guidelines such as more opportunities for curbside pick, plexiglass shields at registers and social distancing markers.
