NC Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson officially announces bid for governor, second Republican candidate

RALEIGH, N.C. — A new candidate for governor has thrown their hat in the ring.

North Carolina’s Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson announced his candidacy for governor during his Alamance County rally at Ace Speedway, WTVD reports.

The rally started at 4 p.m. in north Alamance County, just outside of Elon. WTVD reported that multiple speakers went to the podium before Robinson finally spoke at 4:30 p.m.

“Today we make it official: I am running for governor of North Carolina,” Robinson announced.

WTVD reports that last month, State Treasurer Dale Folwell announced his bid for governor, making Robinson the second Republican to join the race. At this time, Attorney General Josh Stein is the only Democrat in the race.
