RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina woman thought she hit the jackpot on Instagram, but it was all a scam. When she didn’t fall for it, the scammer started threatening her.

The Randolph County woman said a user posted he won $80 million and would give her $30,000 if she followed his account.
“The supposed Fed-Ex driver who texted told me he would blackmail me on Instagram with my information,” the woman said.
Later, he messaged her asking for her personal information and a $150 delivery payment for the Fed-Ex driver.
She said that is when she knew something was wrong, but the scammer did not stop there.

The woman reported the scam to Instagram, but has not heard back.
Police said these types of scams are common and pop up more around the holidays.
