MONROE, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation plans to upgrade a major intersection in Monroe.

Crews started working on Monday on U.S. Highway 74 and U.S. Highway 601.
The project includes three left-turn lanes from U.S. 601 onto U.S. 74 West, two southbound right turns onto U.S. 601, and changing the traffic light to include traffic from Campus Park Drive.
NCDOT hopes to finish it by the end of August
