CHARLOTTE — A 17-year-old was seriously hurt after a carjacking turned shooting took place in south Charlotte last week.
The suspects who stole the car shot the teen before they fled the scene.
This all began at the end of Sedgefield Road Wednesday night. It’s one of the quieter neighborhoods in town, which is why residents who live there are so surprised.
“I never experienced anything like this in this neighborhood, or anywhere around here,” said Matthew Washington. He’s lived in the community for three years.
Washington was one of the residents who came to help the victim.

“Couple of ladies outside, they had got to him first and had called police,” he said. “I came out here and there was a young man laying on the ground, screaming in pain and I went to go get a towel.”
Another neighbor, Jae Eaton, took a picture of the police response.
“Oh, a big surprise, Yeah, I mean I’ve always felt safe leaving my car unlocked out here being as tucked in as we are,” Eaton said.
One neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, says he saw four people approach the victim’s car.
“You heard the stick hit the car, like they were trying to get him to get out of the car,” he said. “Couple of seconds went by, you heard the gunshot. Couple of more seconds went by, you heard the tires peeling out and I saw them when the pulled out.”
Police and Highway Patrol pulled the stolen vehicle over near I-77 and Tyvola Road, but the suspects jumped and ran.
“They put pressure on the wound and then we called the police and called his mother and just waited till they got there,” Washington said.
Police said the injuries to the victim were serious, but there is no word on his condition.
At last check, no one has been arrested in the case.
