RALEIGH — The Northern Wake Fire Department in Raleigh has a new high-tech tool to help with underwater
The underwater drone called “Blue Eye” is the only one used by a fire department in the U.S.
It is equipped with a camera and sonar, making it safer for crews to do underwater inspections.
“What we do is we navigate with the sonar. We identify, and we can identify a body underneath the water with the sonar,” said Chief Blake Wright.
Crews received specialized training in Norway on how to operate the drone.
