New video shows thieves stealing luxury cars from Cornelius dealership

CORNELIUS, N.C. — New video shows another break-in at a local car dealership -- this time in Cornelius.

Police said it happened just before 2 a.m. Thursday at the Modern Nissan dealership on Statesville Road.

The video shows one suspect breaking in through a door and another following behind. They found keys before driving a dark gray 2015 Audi RS5 convertible right out of the showroom doors.

Police said the pair also stole a black 2018 Dodge Durango.

Investigators asked for help tracking down the suspects. They believe a white Dodge Charger was involved in the theft.

It’s the third break-in Channel 9 has covered at a local car dealership just this week. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Monday that video surveillance showed thieves breaking into an east Charlotte dealership. The suspects drove out of the showroom with three BMWs and a Maserati -- all worth more than $310,000.

A worker at the Randy Marion dealership in Mooresville also said thieves targeted them recently, stealing five Corvettes.

A CMPD detective told Channel 9 they’re seeing an uptick in dealerships being targeted. He’s working with other agencies to see if there’s a connection.

Police asked for help identifying the suspects and the Dodge Charger. Anyone with information is asked to call Cornelius police at 704-892-7773, or North Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers at 704-896-7867.
