Pair charged in southeast Charlotte deadly shooting arrested in Arkansas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two men have been arrested after a man was found shot to death last week in a parking lot in the Grier Heights neighborhood.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. on June 3 at an apartment complex on Oak Arbor Lane.

When officers got to the complex, they found 31-year-old Oscar Steele dead in the parking lot.

Officers were able to identify 22-year-old Kareem Lamonthay Johnson and 20-year-old Karnell Antonio Lawrence as suspects and issued warrants for their arrests.

The men were later found in Texarkana, Arkansas.

Johnson has been charged with murder. Lawrence is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

They are awaiting extradition back to North Carolina.

Police have not said what led to the shooting or if the men knew Steele.
