IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — One person has died following a head-on collision in Iredell County, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on Old Mountain Road near Marie-Duke Lane.

Troopers said a 996 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north on Old Mountain Road when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2014 Ford Explorer. The Silverado then caught fire.

The driver of the Silverado, 57-year-old Jeffrey Turman Walker, was trapped in the trunk of the vehicle and died from his injuries.

The driver of the Explorer was minorly injured but was not taken to an area hospital. A passenger was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to troopers.

Troopers said impairment or speed does not seem like a contributor to the crash, however, they are still investigating.
