CMPD identifies man shot, killed in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A 58-year-old man was killed Monday evening in a shooting in west Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

Officers said they were called around 7:15 p.m. to Avalon Avenue near Tuckaseegee Road for reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Gerald McCombs was shot and taken to a hospital where he died, police said.

During the initial investigation, police said they contacted a person of interest who is being interviewed. Authorities said they are not looking for any additional suspects at this time.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-8477 and speak directly to a homicide detective.
