Mother pleads for community to help solve son’s murder

CHARLOTTE — A mother is heartbroken after her son was killed in a shooting over the weekend and is asking the community for help to help solve the violent crime.

“(I) got to explain to his children when they ask me, “Where’s my dad?” Donna Spencer told Channel 9.

Armani Spencer, 23, was killed and two others were hurt when a vehicle pulled up at an intersection near Northlake Mall and started shooting at another car early Saturday morning, according to a police report.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon around 1 a.m. on Northlake Mall Drive. At the scene, officers found three people shot, and confirmed one died at the scene. The two other victims were taken to a local hospital.

There were four people total inside the car that was shot at, according to a police report.

Donna Spencer said the violence has to stop in the wake of her son’s death.

“He was a kind person, generous person,” the mother said. “A giving person. A supportive person, and he was taken away from me.”

No arrests have been made.

Detectives are still investigating and are asking anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS.
