Person of interest in Pageland mom’s disappearance brought back to SC

PAGELAND, S.C. — A man who was identified as a person of interest in the mysterious disappearance of a Pageland mother and was arrested in Georgia has been brought back to South Carolina to face the charges against him.

Emanuel Bedford was arrested by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia in October.

Bedford was charged with grand larceny and obstructing justice. In September, he was named a person of interest in the disappearance of Deidre Reid.

The mother of three was last seen on Sept. 3 when she left home to take Bedford to a Charlotte bus station, family members and police said. Bedford is the father of Reid’s 7-year-old son.

Family members said Reid’s 2004 Chevy Tahoe got to the bus station, but she didn’t return to Pageland.

“She out there somewhere,” Reid’s sister, Jennifer Reid said. “We can’t find her. We can’t help her. It hurts. It hurts bad.”

Bedford is from Augusta, Georgia, which is one of the places detectives have searched for Reid. Police and Reid’s family hope the arrest brings them closer to finding her.

“I hope Emmanual sees this while he’s incarcerated,” Reid’s brother, James Reid said. “Do it for your son. Do it for your son. You owe him that.”

Eight-year-old Eden Bedford has not seen his mom in almost three months and spent his birthday without her.

“On Eden’s 8th birthday, he came and said he wanted to speak to his father or at least see him and let him see the pain that is in his face,” James Reid said.

Family members said Eden got the opportunity to see his dad, Bedford, face to face inside the Pageland Police Department.

“It was very hard, but I do know that our nephew wanted that,” James Reid said.

Family members are hoping Bedford’s arrival will lead to answers.

“It’s just been a nightmare for us,” Tina Reid said.
