CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a shooting that left one Charlotte man dead early Sunday morning.
Alejandro Alvarez had several gunshot wounds.
"He was a big brother," Alvarez's cousin Carrie Flock said. "He loved his brother. We miss him a lot."
Sunday night, family and friends mourned the loss of Alvarez. They gathered outside of Skandalo's nightclub where the 22-year-old was killed in the early morning hours.
"So suddenly, and probably over nothing--from my understanding, a fight that probably escalated into something more than what it should have been," Flock said.
Eyewitness News was there when investigators were on the scene on Independence Boulevard. Police say they found Alvarez with several gunshot wounds. Officers believe there was some kind of fight in the parking lot between several other people before the shooting.
The family can't believe that Alvarez is never coming home. They told Eyewitness News he rarely went to clubs, loved to stay in with family, and had recently turned his life around.
"A lot of times you hear stories that it's always the good ones that get taken," Flock said. "He was someone who had a rough path at one point, but he changed his life around and he was doing so good. He was doing so many great things."
Detectives have been canvassing the area, trying to find witnesses. Family and friends want justice.
"We need to know who did this, and if anyone knows anything, we need them to speak up now," Flock said.
Detectives are looking for a dark-colored Honda in connection with the shooting.
