Pilot walks away from small plane crash in Catawba County

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A pilot walked away from a small plane crash Monday night at a private air strip in Catawba County.

The Highway Patrol said it happened in rainy conditions at the Long Island Airpark after the pilot ran the Grumman Yankee Clipper off the end of the runway.

The pilot was not hurt, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol said the FAA has been contacted since the plane was damaged during the landing.
