Police: 1 killed, 5 hurt after shots fired at Gastonia block party

GASTONIA, N.C. — Police are investigating after several people were shot at a block party in Gaston County early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened just after 1:30 a.m. on Earl Lane in Gastonia.

Police said an unknown suspect fired several shots and hit six people at the block party.

The victims were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, where 21-year-old Johnathan Tate Jr. died from his injuries.

The other five victims are expected to be OK.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting and no arrests have been made.

No other information has been released.
