Police: Man arrested for murder of teen in Concord; 18-year-old wanted

CONCORD, N.C. — One man has been arrested and another is wanted for the murder of a 17-year-old in Concord early Friday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a shooting call just before 1:15 a.m. in the Southern Chase subdivision off Zion Church Road. Shortly after, police found a vehicle on Old Charlotte Road SW, where a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot.

Other people inside the car told Concord police that there was a shootout with another group after an argument on Pullman Street SW. The teen shot and killed during the shooting was confirmed dead at the scene, authorities said.

On Monday, officers said they arrested and charged Paris Johnson, 24, with murder. Authorities are still searching for Witness Haynes, 18, who is also wanted for murder.

Anyone with information on the investigation, or where Haynes may be, is asked to contact the Concord Police Department at 704-920-5000.

Concord police initially said a Friday morning shooting on Halton Park Drive in the University City area was connected to the shooting near Old Charlotte Road SW. MEDIC said it took one person to the hospital.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a shooting didn’t happen in University City, and that it happened in Concord. Channel 9 is working to learn how the two shootings are connected.

No other details have been released at this point. Return to this story for updates.
