Police charge neighbor in fatal Thanksgiving shooting in Stanley

STANLEY, N.C. — A woman was killed and her neighbor has been arrested after a shooting on Thanksgiving in Stanley, according to Gaston County police.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 2300 block of Stanley-Lucia Road.

Inside the home, Kathy Smith, 58, was found dead from a gunshot wound, officials said.

Police located and arrested Daniel James Moxley, 48, at the scene and charged him with first-degree murder.
