Police ask for help finding 12-year-old boy reported missing

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are asking for the public’s help trying to find a missing 12-year-old boy.

Dakota Trent was last seen on Feb. 22 on Sawyer Drive near Old Concord Road in northeast Charlotte.

“My heart really goes out to the family,” neighbor Kimberly Rogers said. “We’re a really tight neighborhood, and people look out for each other here. We’re certainly, we’re all keeping our eyes open. There’s a lot of kids here. We hate to think that one of them might not be safe.”

According to CMPD, the boy was wearing a dark-colored puffer jacket and blue Adidas shoes. Police said Dakota has a history of running away from home and might be near the UNC Charlotte campus.

He is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 115 pounds.

Anyone with information about where Dakota might be should call 911.
