CHESTER, S.C. — Police have charged the mother of two boys after they were found by themselves in Chester on Monday afternoon.
Officials said 26-year-old Ashley Barns has been charged with two counts of child neglect.
Police are still investigating.
Officers were searching for the parents or family of the children after someone spotted them playing inside their truck on College Street without a parent around. Police said the owner of the vehicle had never seen them before.
The Chester Police Department said officers eventually found Barns on Hinton Street. Officials said the boys are safe but have been taken into emergency protective custody.
