KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The man who was shot and killed by police during an alleged attempted carjacking in Kannapolis has been identified.
Police say 33-year-old Lorenzo Devonte Gray was holding a gun and attempting to carjack a vehicle just before noon at South Main Street and Bethpage Road.
During the incident, police say the officers involved, Lt. Justin Smith and Sgt. Matthew Hoehman, shot Gray. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
No officers were hurt.
Both officers have been placed on administrative leave, pending an internal review of the incident.
