CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police charged Saquan Howard-Rooks in a deadly shooting Sunday evening in northwest Charlotte.

Investigators said 19-year-old Tunji Smith Jr. was shot. He was able to run inside a house before collapsing. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Officers were called around 7 p.m. to a shooting call on Saratoga Drive, near Freedom Drive and Interstate 85.

Smith's slaying is Charlotte's 45th homicide of 2018.
