Police investigate shooting at Music Factory

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A shooting happened overnight outside a popular hot spot in uptown.

Two people were shot outside the NC Music Factory early Friday morning. One man was shot in the leg and another was shot in the side during some type of fight, police said.

Officers were called to the parking lot across the street from the Halo club around 2 a.m.

The owner of the Music Factory said there was a private birthday party at the club Thursday night and that the crowd at the time of the shooting was only 100 to 200 people.

A black Dodge Charger was seen fleeing from the scene and was stopped a short time later, police said.  Investigators said the driver, Morris Massalay, was charged with felony possession of marijuana and a stolen firearm. He does not face charges in connection with the shooting.

Eyewitness News talked with management at the Music Factory about security there. They called this an isolated incident and said they partner with police to keep the area safe.

“We at the Music Factory focus on getting a very high level of security,” said Noah Lazes with the NC Music Factory. “We utilize off-duty police officers as well as licensed and trained security personnel to provide a safe and secure guest experience.”
