YORK, S.C. — A 23-year-old mother was arrested after police said she tried to rob a York convenience store with her baby in her arms.
Police were called Tuesday to McCray's Convenience Store on West Liberty Street after the clerk said Ashley Burns came into the store and said she had a gun and demanded $40.
The clerk closed the register and said, "Please don't."
Officers caught up with Burns shortly afterward. They said they found her child with her along with crack cocaine and a glass pipe in the car.
Police charged Burns with attempted store robbery, possession of crack cocaine and unlawful neglect of a child, a police report states.
