Police identify man found shot to death in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a man was found shot to death in east Charlotte early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened just after 6:30 a.m. near East Sugar Creek Road.

Carl Iquan Southerland, 43, was charged for the murder of 41-year-old Brandi Darnel Anderson.

Officers were called to the area after getting reports of a shooting. When they got to the scene, they found Anderson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting.

Southerland was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
