BOONE, N.C. — A man walking his dog discovered what appeared to be a human skull Friday near Winkler Creek in Boone, according to a release from the Boone Police Department.
Police said it was found in an area adjacent to the Town of Boone water intake.
The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office joined police to begin an investigation. Officials searched the area again Tuesday and found no additional remains.
The skull has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further testing and identification.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
